The
information systems used in business are mainly used by management to run organisations
with optimum efficiency. These systems assist the organisation in the process
of collecting, storing and distributing information for the organisation. The
information is then used to make major business decisions and help improve a businesses
Customer Relationship Management.
Initially
IBM was at the forefront of the production and manufacture of the software and
hardware used in the business systems used in business, these computers would
take up a whole room and required a whole team in order for it to function. As
time went by computers became faster and less complicated to use but data
needed to be integrated in order for a business to function efficiently. This
was not possible until the invention of the World Wide Web(WWW) by Tim
Berners-Lee.
Today we
live in what is called “the age of information”. This means information is a
key factor in society and therefore a key factor in business. Major
organisations make important decision based on the information they have found
on the internet. For example a person being interviewed for a job may not get
that particular job due to inappropriate pictures they posted on Facebook.
Organisations nowadays rely on information to
assist them in improving business operations to reach optimum efficiency. An
organisation may find out about a new technology on the market on the internet.
The future
of information systems in business lies in enhancing the technologies that we
already have at our disposal and making them better, there will also be
invention of technology that allows for information in business and it will
help combat the challenges faced by organisations in general, and it is definite
that information will be frequent and accurate with the improvement of
technology so the future looks bright.
The
information systems used in organisations are generally more dependant on
information systems and this comes as no surprise, which means the more
information systems improve, the more efficient organisations become.
